For the last two years, I've had a lot of fun playing with plaster, and am making a few relief sculptures for myself. But they aren't just sculptures, they are pieces of art that are based on my own wellness story.
What I mean by that is that there have been two times in my life when I've had pretty serious health problems that were not helped by a visit to the doctor. Both times I got better because I came up with a wellness plan. Carrying the plan out wasn't fun and it wasn't quick. But it did teach me that I have to try to take care of my mental and physical health every day.
That attitude--of being responsible for my well-being--has had a tremendously positive impact on my life. But there was something that I was forgetting to do. I never properly acknowledged how hard I'd worked to get better. That's the reason why I decided to make art to celebrate wellness.
I will begin to make commissioned pieces based on the wellness stories of others at some point soon. To receive email updates about my art and to find out what connection there is between wellness and the images you see in this slideshow, sign up for my newsletter.
